Rejecting traditional sculptural materials in favour of synthetic and industrial materials, Richard Deacon likes to describe himself as a ‘maker’. Far from a conceptual approach, his work emphasises above all the importance of the material and the industrial creative process, the methods of which he makes no attempt to conceal. Art for Other People titled also its most famous series started in 1982, and enriched in 1992 by the monumental sculpture commissioned by the LAM : Between fact and fiction.
