In 2012, nearly twenty-five years after first photographing a collector’s house renovated by Robbrecht en Daem, Kristien Daem was invited to document the now-empty residence. Having photographed the house early in her career, she had been deeply influenced by the relationship between the artworks and the architecture. With the collection removed and nature slowly reclaiming the site, she returned with a 4×5" camera to capture the traces of what remained. Her black-and-white photographs explore memory, absence, and the passage of time, revealing the house as a silent witness to its former life
