In 1995 at Etablissement d’en face, Krijn de Koning and Gladstone Thompson present an installation designed in close harmony with the venue’s architecture. A structure spans the atrium of the 52th Rue d’Artois (1000 Brussels), offering views from both above and below. The installation thus transforms the space into a structure to be experienced, rather than simply an exhibition venue. Situated between sculpture and architecture, the work plays on the visitor’s perception, visibility and movement. It is a way of intervening in the architecture through additions, subtractions and effects of spatial alienation.
