In 1922, Jaromir Funke broke away from traditional photography by turning to abstraction. He explored Cubism and created seminal works within New Objectivity and Constructivism, whilst remaining closely associated with the Bauhaus. In the 1920s, he was one of the first to adopt an irrational approach, such as Poetism or Surrealism. This book focuses primarily on the ideas that shaped and transformed Jaromir Funke’s work, placing it within the context of the European photographic and cultural avant-garde, of which he was a pioneer; edited in collaboration with Jaromir Funke’s daughter, Miloslava Rupešová, with a foreword by Marek Pokorny, and featuring black-and-white photographs.
